Help SOLE get our youth on the snow this winter!

donateWinter is upon us and once again! Fortunately, for us the 9th Annual Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival is answering the call here in Sandpoint, Idaho at the beautiful Panida Theater at 7:00 PM on Friday November 22nd, 2013. Wax those skis, tune those boards and gather your friends! There is no better way to celebrate the fun and beauty of winter than with the Backcountry Film Festival, a true celebration of winter played and lived as told thru the seven unique films included in this 9th annual showing. This North Idaho stop will be nothing short of exceptional including an incredible silent auction, local brews, raffle and mountains of winter inspiration to prove once again that winter rocks in North Idaho! As an addition, representation will be on hand from key community organizations and agencies to share what each has in store for the coming winter months and of special note SOLE will host a VIP Pre-Event Party at The Readery (5:30 – 6:30) with a special presentation from SOLE Fieldwork Coordinator and Idaho State Educator of the year  - Jamie Esler.

The films themselves come from renowned filmmakers who search backcountry corners across the globe to submit their best work, and from grassroots filmmakers who take a video camera out on their weekend excursions and submit their best film short.  The entries are juried by a panel of judges and the top selections are assembled into a 1 hour and 45 minute program.  This years submissions includes Sweetgrass Productions Vahalla as a feature length film providing ample opportunity for backcountry enthusiasts to get a taste for Pow! In addition, SOLE will premier two short films by local filmmaker Scott Rulander of Gem Vision Productions.

The festival was created nine years ago to highlight Winter Wildlands Alliance’s efforts to preserve and promote winter landscapes for human-powered users. From a single showing in Boise that first year, the festival has grown to include showings in locations throughout the United States, Canada and overseas to Antarctica, Europe, Australia and Asia. Funds raised stay in local communities to support like-minded, human-powered recreation efforts and to raise awareness of winter management issues, avalanche training/safety and winter education programs.

ALL PROCEEDS GO TO SUPPORT SOLE’S FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING OUR WINTER WILDLANDS ALLIANCE SNOWSCHOOL – the nations largest on snow winter ecology program to get LOCAL AREA YOUTH OUT ON THE SNOW!
